Week 10: To Pee or Not to Pee…(or Tinkle Tinkle Little Star)

There is NO question…when you’re pregnant…It’s ALWAYS to pee.  Allegedly Lisa has been peeing a lot at night…and I have been sleeping through it.  I won’t argue about whether my own blissful slumber is fair or not…but I am not above walking a mile in Lisa’s slippers (if she wore slippers)…

I started a pee journal.

I lasted one night.

Lisa made me get out of bed and stand in the hallway while she peed each time.  It was four times.  That’s basically once every two hours in an 8 hour sleep.  Is that a lot or just an inconvenient amount?  I’m not sure.  I certainly had some feelings about getting up to stand in the hallway…But I am the one who suggested and agreed to this experiment.

I’ve been pretty selfish about my sleep the past few months.  I mean I see the writing on the Facebook walls…I won’t be sleeping for the next 18 years at least.  Unfortunately, Lisa’s insomnia has already started…it’s not just the peeing…She just seems to have every pregnancy symptom except constipation (thank goodness for small favors and a high fiber diet)…She takes great joy in waking me up in the middle of the night to share in the experience of sleep deprivation.  Things started playful enough with what she called tickle parties (which I’m pretty sure some people have gone to jail for)…She hit a new low when she pretended to be asleep the other night as one of our dogs danced at the foot of the bed.  I suppose she was hoping that I forgot that not five minutes before she had mentioned her inability to sleep for the third time…It took my sleepy brain a few minutes to realize I had been duped…(Don’t judge me, I got out of bed and took the dog out to pee.)
Week 10 – We are on the down hill slope of the first trimester.  Our little fetus is the size of a date.  It fits so snug in the palm of my hand.

Lisa’s nausea is so much better this week.  She is able to keep all of her food down and is able to brush her teeth without tossing her cookies.  This week also was our first visit with the midwifery group…(Side Note: Lisa and I find the pronunciation of midwifery hilarious for some reason… mid-whiff-er-ee…seriously, say it out loud…hysterical)…Lisa had an amazing visit with our chosen midwife.  The midwife said the heartbeat was strong.  No new pictures of the fetus so a picture of Lisa’s belly will have to do.  Our next visit will be in early September!

  1. I love this post because it’s so true! Callie gets on me all the time for not feeling her get up, or hearing the cat meowing at 4am, or not responding to her trying to wake me up. And the pregnancy symptoms! GOOD GOD! I must have gained more weight in the past 3 1/2 months than she has! It’s ridiculous. And it thought mid-wifff-reeee is freaking hilarious!!!!!

    • I cannot believe I don’t hear her get up. It’s not like we have one of those foam beds. I feel the dog angrily get up and move every time someone accidentally touches him but not a whole human getting out of the bed! It’s crazy!
